Surviving a Heart Attack

This story is for illustration purposes only.

Imagine as a 38 year-old you suffered a heart attack.

Your doctor tells you that achieving a complete recovery after such a serious illness will require more than just throwing away the cigarettes. It will take time - maybe six to eight months - to slowly and methodically rebuild your heart muscle. Your doctor also tells you your present job as a sales manager will be too stressful, and if you return to that job, you could have another heart attack. Your doctor suggests retraining.

You can think of nothing but your family and the time you will need for retraining. Luckily for you, your company will let you borrow money from your profit-sharing program, so you may not have to dip into your emergency savings. You'll use this money to support your family during the long and difficult transition period. However, everyone's situation is different when faced with critical illness such as Cancer, Heart Attack or Stroke.

70,000 heart attacks occur each year in Canada.1
