ATV Insurance with TD Insurance

What is ATV Insurance?

All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) insurance is similar to car insurance in that there are mandatory and optional coverages for your vehicle. And just like your car, insurance is required on ATV's if you go for a spin on a public road - including quick road crossings to reach a trail on the other side. In addition, your insurance company may require that certain endorsements, like the Recreational Vehicle endorsement, or Marine Use Excluded endorsement be added to your policy to specifically address the unique risks associated with using an all-terrain vehicle.

What does insurance cover on a 4-wheeler?

ATV insurance can offer financial protection if you're held liable for damages and/or injuries to a third party or a third party's property. Optional ATV insurance coverage can include coverage for damage to your ATV due to a collision, theft, fire, and hail. Therefore, even if you're only planning to drive your ATV on private property, you may still want to have it insured to avoid paying out-of-pocket to repair or replace your ATV if it's damaged or stolen.

Do you need ATV insurance coverage in Canada?

To drive your ATV on a public roadway, you’ll need to have insurance. If your ATV is financed or leased, you'll likely be required to show proof of insurance in order to pick it up from the dealership.

Depending on your province, mandatory ATV insurance coverage may include:

  1. Third-Party Liability: Provides financial protection in case of injury and/or damage to others and their property resulting from an automobile accident.

  2. Uninsured and Unidentified Automobile: Provides coverage for medical costs and damages if an uninsured driver is at fault, up to your policy limits.

  3. Accident Benefits: Provides coverage for you and your family if you're injured or killed in an accident.

In addition to mandatory coverage, you can purchase optional ATV insurance coverage depending on your needs.

Depending on your province, optional ATV insurance coverage may include:

  1. Direct Compensation: Damages to your ATV are covered to the extent which you’re not at fault.

  2. Specified Perils Coverage: Protects your ATV from certain risk such as losses caused by fire, floods, hail or theft.

  3. Comprehensive Coverage: All other insured damage caused to your ATV (except collision or upset).

  4. Collision or Upset Coverage: Damage to your ATV caused by a traffic collision with another vehicle or object.

  5. All Perils Coverage: The broadest level of coverage - combines Collision or Upset and Comprehensive coverage along with increased theft protection.

Knowing you’ve got the right coverage in place can help you take on the trails with confidence. A TD Insurance Advisor can help you determine the ATV insurance coverage that best fits your needs.
